La Pavoni PGC Tre Spade Conical Burr Grinder, Chrome

Product Description

The La Pavoni Tre Spade burr grinder in chrome complements La Pavoni lever machines beautifully. The front hopper can hold 1/4lb, and includes 9 grind settings. Coffee can be grinded directly into your coffee handle or into the removable hopper. This unit also has tempered steel burr grinders, and an automatic shut off. One year warranty.

Amazon.com Review

Whether your preferred coffee is standard drip, rich Turkish, or a double shot of espresso with a twist, this grinder can achieve the optimum size of freshly ground beans. A simple knob can be dialed from one to nine, providing multiple grinds, while the instruction sheet details which number to use for the brewing style you prefer. The bright chrome finish and sleek walls add a modern touch to the kitchen counter, but at only 4 inches wide, it only needs a little space. A stiff brush is included for cleaning oils and other remains from the blades, which also makes it easy to use for hard spices such as cloves. If accuracy is of top importance to you, this is the grinder to choose. --Jill Lightner

  • Coffee grinder with tempered-steel conical burrs
  • Removable top hopper holds a fourth pound of beans
  • 9 grind settings, from coarse to very fine; automatic shut-off
  • Stiff brush included for cleaning oils and other remains from blades
  • Measures 6-1/2 by 3-3/4 by 10 inches; 1-year warranty

3.0 out of 5 stars I expected better, December 1, 2011

This review is from: La Pavoni PGC Tre Spade Conical Burr Grinder, Chrome (Kitchen)
Our previous burr grinder passed away in 2009, so I searched for a replacement. Unfortunately, that brand had moved manufacturing from Switzerland to Taiwan, so a change was in order. I searched Amazon for one that looked good, seemed to have good features and had a good chance of being reliable. The La Pavoni made the short list and was ultimately purchased from Amazon. The decision was made primarily on the feature description plus the assumption that Italians must know coffee grinders.

After two plus years of use, the positives and negatives of this product are pretty clear.

Positives: looks good, grinds coffee reasonably well, no failures.

Negatives: sounds like a rock crusher, they give you a cleaning brush for a reason (it needs to be cleaned frequently), the beans don't feed reliably

In all honesty, it is possible the poor feed and the frequent cleanings are a result of the oily beans we use, but I would expect Italian beans to... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars First rate grinder, November 5, 2011
By
This review is from: La Pavoni PGC Tre Spade Conical Burr Grinder, Chrome (Kitchen)
First rate coffee grinder - seems not to heat coffee at at while grinding, and the range of grinds available is impressive. That said, grinding adjustments are tedious to make if switching from Moka (6) to Turkish coffee (1), for example, but the grinder has given reliable performance for over a year. 'Am very happy with purchase, though in honesty, I bought directly from the US importer in NYS, and not Amazon.

I think it is unfortunate that the previous reviewer is rating this product with 1 star without actually using it. It is an Italian made grinder that is not only attractive but grinds a perfect grind for my LaPavoni PC-8. You can grind in to your doser or for larger amounts of coffee grind diectly in to the removable hoppper. It's quiet, too. Looks awesome on my countertop.

1.0 out of 5 stars Factory Second" means "can't be used"., February 12, 2011

This review is from: Old Dutch Decor Factory 2nd Copper Turkish Coffee Pot / Butter Warmer, 1.5 Pint
This product was listed as "factory Second" since the handle rivets protruded a bit. Well I figured 'who cares-I just want to make coffee with it'. Well the rivets protrude (as stated) but liquid leaks from where the rivets punch through the pot. There is also no welding which means they never attempted to seal the rivets. So, with shipping I spent almost $50 on a briki that couldn't make coffee! The item was a present so when I received it (I assumed it worked because it looked fine) I wrapped it. By the time my friend opened it for her birthday and tried to use it - and found out it was worthless - the refund time expired. Who sells a product with no quality control measures?? If they QC'd the factory second they would have realized it leaks. They should be ashamed.

The coffee pot leaks liquid through the holes where the handle is attached to the pot. You can't pour more water in it than where the rivets are connected or it starts leaking from outside. It's unusable unless the liquid is below that area which is useless for me. I bought only for it's size that it can be used to fill it completely. Otherwise I could have bought a smaller pot. This pot looks good at first and seems like it's well made, but during first use it let all water out the attachment. I would not recommend to buy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars tasty Turkish coffee, October 17, 2009

This review is from: Old Dutch Decor Factory 2nd Copper Turkish Coffee Pot / Butter Warmer, 1.5 Pint
I selected this item because it was a good price and a good size. It is big enough to serve four (with small cups), and small enough (barely) to drink all by myself.
It is a beautiful ibrik, and it works well. I am very happy with it, and I am glad I bought it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs this mod to work properly!, September 20, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker CBM210 Stainless Steel Burr Coffee Mill/Grinder (Kitchen)
Paid $19 at Target and was dismayed at the random grind it produced. Realized it was a good design, just poorly executed. Here is how to fix it:

1. Pop out the top grinding head as per the cleaning instructions.
2. Carefully unscrew the two screws securing the grinding head to the plastic insert.
3. Trace the circular grinding head on a business card.
4. Cut this out to make a gasket that will fit between the grinding plate and the plastic insert.
5. Re-assemble and insert into the hopper as per the cleaning instructions.

Now it will grind your coffee beans consistently to whatever degree you want.

I'd give it 5 stars for value, but it should have been made right in the first place!

1.0 out of 5 stars Sub-standard Burr Grinder, October 5, 2008

This review is from: Black & Decker CBM210 Stainless Steel Burr Coffee Mill/Grinder (Kitchen)
I should have known better than to pay less than $50 for a burr grinder.

This machine, though compact and aesthetically pleasing, lacks the ability to produce uniform grinds which, really, is the only reason to buy a burr grinder. The first time I dumped beans into the hopper and held down the power button, I was dismayed at the resultant coarse-looking grinds. I thought I'd made a mistake and set the grinder wrong, but I wasn't.

Moreover, when I closely inspected the grinds container, I found grinds ranging from Turkish coffee-fine grinds to percolator-coarse grinds. Unacceptable.

If you're looking for a quality grinder (and you probably are if you've graduated from blade to burr), then don't look to spend less than $50.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take it on its own terms, November 8, 2009

This review is from: Black & Decker CBM210 Stainless Steel Burr Coffee Mill/Grinder (Kitchen)
I bought mine at Target for $22.xx yesterday.

What this is not: a highly precise burr grinder with a wide range of grind settings

What this is: a very good alternative to a blade grinder that grinds at a lower speed (as all burr grinders do), and thus won't burn the beans and is relatively quiet

I think it's safe to say that the manufacturer didn't intend this grinder to compete with high-end burr grinders, like the great one from Kitchen Aid. This grinder sells at the same price point of blade grinders, albeit with a slight premium. And, for good reason.

This grinder provides a relatively consistent grind size (there's even a mod listed in these reviews that promises to help). The size of grind on the smallest and the largest settings really is not that different - it clearly does not have the range of a serious burr grinder. But, as a casual burr grinder, this thing is great.

I think that the manufacturer intended... Read more
